Morton Plant Mease Foundation's Charity Ball is the longest running fundraiser in Clearwater.
Since the first Charity Ball in 1957, the original vision has remained the same - to ensure that no member of our community is turned away, regardless of income or insurance, from obtaining proper medical attention.
The Morton Plant Mease Foundation provides philanthropic support to the hospitals of Morton Plant, Morton Plant North Bay, Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin, granting community-owned health care services that set the standard for exceptional care. The proceeds raised from Charity Ball will allow the underserved population in our community access to high-quality, compassionate health care.
Funds raised from Charity Ball help us support programs and services such as:
*Saving women's lives by supporting the prevention and early detection of breast cancer. A $30,000 gift helps fund over 300 Mammogram screenings to uninsured or underinsured women at the Susan Cheek Needler Breast Center whose awareness and opportunity for help is often limited.
*When one member of a family has cancer, the whole family is affected. A gift of $25,000 will provide and ensure that at least 40 uninsured or underinsured families have access to psychological, emotional and spiritual support from our CaPSS (cancer patient support services) counselors at the Powell Cancer Center.
*Prenatal care is the key to monitoring a mother and her expected baby's health throughout the pregnancy. A gift of $20,000 allows more than 10 women prenatal care with an ultrasound at Turley Family Health Center who would not otherwise receive it.
*Expectant mother's primary focus should be having a healthy pregnancy and delivery for their baby - not worrying about the cost. A gift of $15,000 provides 3 uninsured or underinsured mothers a better opportunity for a healthy delivery at the Sarah Walker Women's Center.
*Too many individuals in our community are forced to suffer through painful injuries because they can't afford proper health care. A gift of $10,000 will ensure that at least 50 chest x-rays and readings will be provided to at-risk patients at the Clearwater Free Clinic.
*Reductions in state funding for mental health programs have led to a large number of mentally ill persons without basic health services and housing. A gift of 15 mental health counseling sessions at the Homeless Emergency Project to the area's most vulnerable population.
